Prophet Hud (A.S)
This article depicts the history of Prophet Hud (A.S) and the struggle made by him to preach Islam.
After the peroid of Prophet Nuh (A.S), whose society was washed out by Allah's trail of flood except believers, the believers settled in different places and becomes different civilization. One such settlement occur in the region between modern Yemen and Oman. The settlers in this region is then known as Aad. They are the first society to speak Arab. And the first Arab Prophet is from them, named Hud (A.S).
The Aad tribe began to worship idols of their righteous predecessors. They are the first society to practice shirk, worshipping anyone besides Allah, after the period of Prophet Nuh (A.S).
Allah provided Aad people with many gifts including fertile land and abundant agriculture, many children, supply of livestock and easy access to water resources.
He (Allah) has aided you with cattle and children. And gardens and springs.
Aad peoples are capable to build lofty pillars and over that they make dwellings and they used live there. They are building lofty towers and dwellings just to display their wealth. The rulers and leaders of Aad were powerful tyrants.
Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. And when you seize, seize you as tyrants?
Aad people are arrogant and they believed themselves as mightier in strength and Allah responds as that why they don't think about Allah, who created them was mightier in strength than them.
As for Ad, they were arrogant in the land without right, and they said: "Who is mightier than us in strength?" See they not that Allah, Who created them was mightier in strength than them. And they used to deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.)!
Allah selects a rasool, messenger, from them named Hud (A.S) to preach Islam amongst them and to remid Allah's mercy and his punishment. And Hud (A.S) starts his da'wa, inviting people to Allah, to his tribe.
And to Ad (people, We sent) their brother Hud. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Will you not fear (Allah)?"
And to Ad (people We sent) their brother Hud. He said, "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Certainly, you do nothing but invent (lies)!"
When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me."
And remember (Hud) the brother of Ad, when he warned his people in Al-Ahqaf (the curved sand-hills in the southern part of Arabian Peninsula). And surely, there have passed away warners before him and after him (saying): "Worship none but Allah; truly, I fear for you the torment of a mighty Day."
And the people and their leaders deny him and the oneness of Allah.
The leaders of those who disbelieved among his people said: "Verily, we see you in foolishness, and verily, we think you are one of the liars."
They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, And we are not going to be punished."
Ad (people) belied the Messengers.
Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hood), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings?
They also claim that if Allah wills He would surely have sent down the angels.
When the Messengers came to them, from before them and behind them (saying): "Worship none but Allah" They said: "If our Lord had so willed, He would surely have sent down the angels. So indeed! We disbelieve in that with which you have been sent."
Hud (A.S) responds it to as,
(Hud) said: "O my people! There is no foolishness in me, but (I am) a Messenger from the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists)! I convey unto you the Messages of my Lord, and I am a trustworthy adviser (or wellwisher) for you. Do you wonder that there has come to you a Reminder (and an advice) from your Lord through a man from amongst you that he may warn you? And remember that He made you successors after the people of Nuh (Noah), and increased you amply in stature. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, so that you may be successful."
Prophet Hud (A.S) continues his preaching. Also he keep remiding his people that he didn't want any reward from them and to return to Allah and ask forgiveness and obey the prophet Hud (A.S).
"O my people I ask of you no reward for it (the Message). My reward is only from Him, Who created me. Will you not then understand? And O my people! Ask forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him, He will send you (from the sky) abundant rain, and add strength to your strength, so do not turn away as Mujrimoon (criminals, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah)."
No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns, and all that exists).
So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know.
Also Hud (A.S) warned his people about the torment.
The disbelievers challenged him to bring the torment, with what Hud (A.S) is used to warn them, if he is truthful.
They said: "You have come to us that we should worship Allah Alone and forsake that which our fathers used to worship. So bring us that wherewith you have threatened us if you are of the truthful."
They said: "Have you come to turn us away from our aliha (gods)? Then bring us that with which you threaten us, if you are one of the truthful!"
Hud (A.S) responded to this by as,
(Hud) said: "Torment and wrath have already fallen on you from your Lord. Dispute you with me over names which you have named - you and your fathers, with no authority from Allah? Then wait, I am with you among those who wait."
He said: "The knowledge (of the time of its coming) is with Allah only, and I convey to you that wherewith I have been sent, but I see that you are a people given to ignorance!"
Then Allah bring a cloud and when the disbelievers think that it is going to bring rain. But Allah brings a wind wherein is a painful torment that they are chanllenging to bring and Allah destroys the disbelievers while saving the believers.
So We saved him and those who were with him by a Mercy from Us, and We cut the roots of those who belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and they were not believers.
And when Our Commandment came, We saved Hud and those who believed with him by a Mercy from Us, and We saved them from a severe torment. Such were Ad (people). They rejected the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord and disobeyed His Messengers, and followed the command of every proud obstinate (oppressor of the truth, from their leaders). And they were pursued by a curse in this world and (so they will be) on the Day of Resurrection. No doubt! Verily, Ad disbelieved in their Lord. So away with Ad, the people of Hud.
So We sent upon them furious wind in days of evil omen (for them) that We might give them a taste of disgracing torment in this present worldly life, but surely the torment of the Hereafter will be more disgracing, and they will never be helped.
Then, when they saw it as a dense cloud coming towards their valleys, they said: "This is a cloud bringing us rain!" Nay, but it is that (torment) which you were asking to be hastened! a wind wherein is a painful torment! Destroying everything by the Command of its Lord! So they became such that nothing could be seen except their dwellings! Thus do We recompense the people who are Mujrimoon (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, etc.)!
And in Ad (there is also a sign) when We sent against them the barren wind;It spared nothing that it reached, but blew it into broken spreads of rotten ruins.
Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity.
And as for Ad, they were destroyed by a furious violent wind;
This wind continued for seven nights and eight days in succession, and destroyed the Aad people, where their bodies look like uprooted stems of date-palms.
Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms.
Which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms!
